SPIRAL BEACH ANNOUNCES NATIONAL TOUR
BALL to be Released on Tommy Boy in the U.S.
NEW ALBUM COMING AUGUST 2009
“Ambitious and genre-defining, Spiral Beach are torchbearers, with cross-over appeal catering to the all-ages underground ethos of raves, the pop confection of the Go! Team, frenzied outbursts of the Ramones, and the sleazy art-punk of the Creeping Nobodies and No Dynamics... This foursome is definitely one of the most exciting bands to come from Toronto. Once you spot the huge cardboard thought-bubble with the words Spiral Beach displayed above the stage, strap in and hold onto your seat. Let the circus begin.” – SoundProof Magazine
Toronto, Ontario March 25, 2009 – Fresh out of the studio and into the van, Toronto's own Spiral Beach will be packing their bags for a 25 date national tour! They will be hitting the road with one of their very own favourite acts, Hey Ocean! Check out tour dates below for all 25 stops in Canada!
As Spiral Beach disappear down the highway, Michael Olson (Hidden Cameras) finishes the final mixes for the band's next album for Sparks Music which will be unleashed in Canada this August.
Meanwhile...south of the border Tommy Boy and Sparks are lighting a fire under the band's current CD Ball which will be released in the U.S. on May 5th. The album recently debuted on the CMJ college charts at #67 and the video for “Made of Stone” was just serviced to MTV and various other video outlets. The track has also been featured on various alternative stations in San Francisco, Detroit, Buffalo, Albany and Charlotte.
With the release of Ball in the fall of 2007, a few signs of media interest had already emerged. The band had graced the cover of Toronto’s NOW Magazine. They ruffled a few feathers with their performance on Canada’s MTV-LIVE when they unexpectedly invited ten of their fans in crazy costumes up on stage to join the “live” broadcast! Spiral Beach had also toured extensively throughout Canada and had been invited to tour with both Sloan and Hidden Cameras in the U.S.... mere teenagers at the time; they were already becoming true road warriors!
However, it wasn’t until the spring of 2008 that the momentum seemed to become more real. Dazzling reviews from bloggers and mainstream press started to appear. Their single “Made Of Stone” peaked at #31 on the BDS Canada Rock Audience Chart. Toronto radio station The Edge picked the band for their ‘Next Big Thing’ month long promotion, and soon after nominated them ‘Best New Indie Band’ of the year for their CASBY AWARDS. A live performance on XM’s ‘The Verge’ was rated as the show’s Top Performance of the Year! Meanwhile, Ball was embraced by college radio peaking on the EARSHOT chart at #16!
A trip to the U.K. followed with BBC Radio 1 airplay and a mini club tour. Back in Toronto MUCHMUSIC added the “Made of Stone” video into medium rotation and the radio play across the country started to steam roll ahead. Spiral Beach began to appear in front of bigger audiences playing events like SXSW, NXNE, Hillside, POP Montreal, Halifax’s Pop Explosion and Virgin Fest.
After their extensive Canadian tour the van swings south for U.S. dates starting in mid May to support the Tommy Boy release of Ball.
