Pop Montreal & Art Pop Present : Supermen Don't Protect You Anymore, the Poster Work of Artist Jack Dylan

Since 2005 Montreal poster artist Jack Dylan has created an annual series of five poster designs for the Pop Montreal music festival. Over that period the series has not veered in its thematic focus of Superheroes. Such as pitting Wolverine and Dr. Doom against well known promoters, or last years more melancholic scenes of Superman perched atop the Mount Royal cross with an i-pod; and Cat woman sharing a moment with an ally cat near Ste. Viateur. This year's series attempts to go beyond that, and while sticking to its tradition of superheroes and the city, this time draws upon more inspiration from popular iconography. Classic images from art, film and history, serve as the foundation for several reinterpretations. This led to a remake of painter Edward Hopper's classic "Nighthawks" diner scene, which involves the substitution of a few costume-clad hipsters for its patrons and recognizable greasy spoon Nouveau Palais, as its setting. As well as an ambitious re-rendering of a scene from Kennedy's "Ask not" speech, in which Dylan plants real Montreal community leaders in the images key roles, and fills in the background with a sea of hundreds of local personalities to search through, not unlike a mile end "Where's Waldo".

An addition to the annual fantastic five, and in homage to the Canadian political thriller which is currently unfolding. Dylan has also created a series of show posters, which offer up the four major party leaders as spokesmen for concerts and events such as The Dears, and a series of pay-what-you-can shows hosted by la Divan Orange. That event, titled "The Pop Montreal Tax Rebate" features the fiscally responsible smile of Steven Harper as the appropriate eye candy.

All posters as well as original drawings and paintings will be on sale at Puces Pop
