THE B-52'S are exploding onto the scene with the release of their first studio album in over 10 years and their Astralwerks debut - FUNPLEX. It comes out on March 25, 2008.
One of the most influential bands of modern times, The B's bridged the gap between punk and new wave, introducing a totally unique sound that has influenced such contemporaries as LCD Soundsystem, Interpol and the Scissor Sisters.
The new album was recorded in their native creative hub of Athens, GA with producer Steve Osborne (Happy Mondays, KT Tunstall, New Order, Doves) and programmed by Pete Davis (Bjork) with all four original members: Kate Pierson, Keith Strickland, Cindy Wilson and Fred Schneider. The result is eleven fresh new tracks that represent an updated version of the band while still keeping with their original style and unconventional approach to music on the sexy, infectious, hook-laden new songs.
Stayed tuned for more info on the release from "the world's greatest party band" and the February 26th release of FUNPLEX!
The official EMI press release:
The B-52’s, the pioneering dance-rock stars, are exploding on the scene once again with the 25th of March 2008 release of ‘Funplex’, the band’s first studio album in 16 years and their first on EMI Records.
The influential band – who bridged the gap between punk and new wave with a sound that was uniquely their own – along with producer Steve Osborne (New Order, Happy Mondays, Doves, KT Tunstall) have created a new album as cutting edge, distinctive and danceable as their self-titled debut album and hit single ‘Rock Lobster’ were in 1979.
Recorded in their native Athens, Georgia and with all 11 songs written by Kate Pierson, Fred Schneider, Keith Strickland and Cindy Wilson, ‘Funplex’ finds the band in vigorous, forward stance, while staying true to the party-rock style that influenced such current bands as LCD Soundsystem, Interpol and Scissor Sisters. Guitarist Keith Strickland explains, “It’s loud, sexy rock and roll for your pleasure zones, with the beat pumped up to hot pink.”
This album brings The B-52’s music to a new generation of intergalactic fans. Cindy, Fred, Kate and Keith have made an album that is incredibly fresh, dynamic and perhaps most importantly, quintessentially The B-52’s…. instantly recognisable, instantly fun.
The band have been touring non-stop, recently making a triumphant return to Europe after a 10 year absence, headlining Spain’s Benicassim Festival and Lovebox this past summer.
The B-52’s unveiled their new album at a very special, sold out show at Roseland Ballroom in New York on Halloween, and then again at The Roxy in Los Angeles on 16th November. More live shows for 2008 will be announced soon!
