Fonderie Darling : la programmation de l'été 2009

Un été mouvant à la Fonderie Darling. Cet été l’espace unique de la Fonderie Darling est animé par des performances artistiques, sculptures métamorphiques et installations vidéo.

Waiting for High Water invite le spectateur à une promenade surprenante à Venise au moment de l'acqua alta. Présentées sous forme de projection en triptyque dans la grande salle de la Fonderie Darling ( http://www.fonderiedarling.org/soutenir/artistes/Sterbak_J.html ), les images de cette installation vidéo expérimentale sont filmées à l'aide de trois petites caméras fixées sur la tête d’un Jack Russell nommé Stanley, qui déambule au rythme de la musique du claveciniste Alex Weimann. Le nive au de la mer montante et celui de notre vision rabaissée au regard du chien proposent une perspective déstabilisante de Venise. Waiting for High Water fait suite à From Here to There, une installation vidéo filmée par Stanley sur les rives enneigées du Saint-Laurent et présentée pour la première fois au Pavillon canadien lors de la 50e édition de la Biennale de Venise en 2003.

Les artistes de Vancouver Rhonda Weppler et Trevor Mahovsky (http://www.fonderiedarling.org/soutenir/artistes/Weppler_Mahovsky.html) , poursuivent leur recherche en sculpture comme matière vivante, suivant l’inspiration de leur précédente série d’œuvres molles faites d’empreintes de voiture en papier d’aluminium. Ils présentent à la Fonderie Darling des sculptures évolutives qui prennent une forme aléatoire au fur et à mesure de l’intervention des artistes à même la salle d’exposition. Faites de papier mâché, de farine, d’eau et de pigments, ces sculptures périssables sont graduellement modifiées, colorées et décolorées, marquées et épaissies par l’ajout de couches successives, afin d’évoquer les effets de situations transitoires et l’espace d’interprétation d’objets illusoires.

Rhonda Weppler et Trevor Mahovsky collaborent depuis 2003 et ont à leur actif de nombreuses expositions au Canada, aux Etats-Unis et au Japon. Récemment, ils ont été nominés pour le prestigieux prix Sobey pour les Arts.

Au programme: avant-première de l’expo d’Alain Paiement dans le cadre du Mois de la Photo à Montréal (http://www.moisdelaphoto.com) , cocktail dînatoire dans les ateliers d’artistes, DJs, performances, et plus. L’invitation officielle sera diffusée en juin.

PLACE PUBLIQUE
La Fonderie Darling a le plaisir d’offrir encore cet été un oasis sans voiture sur la rue Ottawa, devant le centre d’arts visuels. Nous travaillons actuellement à monter une programmation du tonnerre. À suivre!

La Fonderie Darling est un centre d’arts visuels d’avant-garde s’adressant à un public curieux de découvrir diverses formes d’art actuel. Occupant une ancienne fonderie de métal dans le Vieux-Montréal, la Fonderie Darling soutient la création, la production et la diffusion des œuvres d’artistes émergents, offrant notamment des ateliers de création, des résidences artistiques internationales et des projets in situ.

Hot Summer at the Darling Foundry

This summer, the Darling Foundry’s unique exhibition spaces will be alive with dance performances, changing sculptures, a performance bus tour, and a video installation.

The Darling Foundry is proud to present Waiting for High Water, a video installation by Jana Sterbak featuring a point-of-view perspective of a dog’s walk during acqua alta in Venice. The work utilizes three cameras affixed to the head of a Russell Terrier named Stanley to give the viewer an untold perspective of Venice while music by Alex Weimann narrates this rediscovery of the city. Featured as a triptych projection, the film will fill the large gallery’s vast factory-like exhibition space with its impressive panoramic display. Waiting for High Water follows From Here to There, a video installation filmed by Stanley on the snowy banks of the St. Lawrence, that was presented at the Canadian Pavilion for the 50th anniversary of the Venice Biennial in 2003.

Vancouver-based artists Rhonda Weppler and Trevor Mahovsky will exhibit a series of sculptures made of papier-mâché, flour, water, and pigment. Made up of these relatively fragile materials, these sculptures will be submitted to a variety of alterations by the artists throughout the exhibition. Their interventions evoke the effects of transitory phenomena and leave room for the interpretation of illusory objects as well as the creative act in of itself.
Rhonda Weppler and Trevor Mahovsky have been collaborating since 2003, and have presented numerous exhibitions in Canada, the United States, and Japan. They were recently nominated for the prestigious Sobey Art Award.

The Darling Foundry invites you to its annual fundraising event. On the menu: premiere of Alain Paiement’s exhibition as part of Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal , cocktails and hors-d’oeuvres, artist studio visits, DJs, and more. Official invitation will be sent out in June.
